|Centre Greek organizations set record
in service, philanthropic projects

DANVILLE, KY-Centre College's Greek organizations raised a record amount of money through philanthropic activities during the 2001-02 academic year.
The College's 10 fraternities and sororities raised nearly $45,000 last year. Twenty-seven agenciesthe American Red Cross, the Humane Society, the March of Dimes and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital among thembenefited from service and philanthropic efforts sponsored by Centre fraternities and sororities.
Nearly 60 projects took place during the year, with the Greek organizations donating nearly 5,000 hours to these endeavors. Food, clothing, toys and a blood drive were other donations made by the Greek community.
"Service and philanthropic activities enhance the Greek experience for members. Individual leadership skills and a sense of pride in the organizations are brought about through this work. Centre has a long history of service. Greek students at Centre support this tradition through the meaningful service they provide to the local, regional and national community each year.
The Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils and several chapters captured a variety of regional and national awards during the year. Several individual Greek members were also cited for their outstanding work, receiving undergraduate and post-graduate scholarships for their achievements.
