Three swimmers named All-Conference

RELEASED: March 7, 2002

DANVILLE, KY-Centre College placed Kyle Poland, Christine Weil and Blythe Ashcraft on the Southern Collegiate Athletic All-Conference Team based on their performances in the conference championships at Sewanee, Tenn.

Poland broke two school records in the 50-meter freestyle (21.42) and the 100-meter freestyle (47.14) placing third and second, respectively. Poland also recorded a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:45.35.
Ashcraft was third in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:51.72. Ashcraft also scored points in the 500-meter and mile swim to capture all-conference honors for the fourth straight year.

First-year diver Weil was outstanding in the one- and three-meter diving competition placing second in both.

Coach Dean Brownley was extremely pleased with his team and his individuals.

"Our team peaked at the right time," he said. "Everybody swam their personal best. We're going to miss our seniors a lot. They went through some tough times but gave us lots of leadership. Chris Ward, Matt Tatman, Lynn Sowards, along with Kyle and Blythe, laid a solid foundation for good things to come. It's nice to have Christine coming back. She has given us lots of points all year and Kyle did super after being out all last year. Blythe has been one of Centre's all-time best swimmers. Her work habits are unbelievable. I'm very happy with the season and the future looks bright. Our current swimmers already had good stroke techniques and they bought into a new system. Another thing that was impressive was our women going 5-3 in head-to-head competition."
