Centre Music Ensembles present "Tutti"

RELEASED: Nov. 21, 2002

DANVILLE, KY—The Centre College Music Program will sponsor a free concert titled "Tutti" on Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. in Newlin Hall of Centre's Norton Center for the Arts.

The term "tutti" is a musical direction that indicates all performers are to take part. This concert will feature all of the Centre music ensembles. The ensembles include CentreBrass Quintet, Centre Flutes, CentreJazz Ensemble, the Men's Chorus, Centre Orchestra, the percussion ensemble, Centre Singers, CentreTrumpets, and Centre Women's Voices.

The groups will perform a variety of music in different styles. The CentreBrass Quintet will perform the Overture to "H. M .S. Pinafore," and the trumpet and flute ensembles will perform a Divertimento by Mozart. The vocal ensembles will present a portion of a Schubert mass, a setting of John Keats' famous poem "Weep No More," a spiritual arranged by Jester Hairston, and a "Christmas Cantata" by Daniel Pinkham. The Centre Orchestra will perform Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings."

A highlight of the concert will be a percussion piece by Chris Crockarell titled "Me Tarzan" in which nearly 75 performers will use their bodies as percussive instruments. The score calls for "bellies, chests, hands, knees and feets."
