RELEASED: Sept. 19, 2002

DANVILLE, KY—Centre College advanced in a study-abroad ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

Centre advanced to sixth place in the percentage of students who study abroad. Last year the College tied for 10th.

The ranking includes the more than 1,400 colleges and universities surveyed, public and private, by U.S. News.

About 70 percent of Centre students take part in international study. The College offers semester-long programs in England, France and Latin America, and has exchange programs in Ireland and Japan. Centre also sponsors a host of shorter programs in other locations throughout the world.

One of the aspects that makes Centre's international program unique is that students can study abroad at costs near those for study on the Danville campus.

Milton Reigelman, Centre's director of international programs and Cowan Professor of English, adds that a Centre faculty member with significant knowledge of that region of the world lives at the sites of Centre programs. Centre professors coordinate special trips and other activities, making the educational experience especially productive.
