DANVILLE, KY-Centre is the 42nd ranked national liberal arts institution by U.S. News & World Report (Kentucky's highest national ranking). What some may not know, however, is that Centre is the most affordable school in the U.S. News top 50.

For the 2001-02 school year, Centre has the lowest comprehensive cost when compiling tuition, room/board and student fees.

Centre's comprehensive cost of $24,000 for 2001-02 made the school one of only two in the U.S. News top 50 to offer an education for less than $25,000 per school year. Thirty-nine of the 50 had a comprehensive cost of more than $30,000, ranging up to nearly $38,000.

Centre's tuition of $18,000 was also the least expensive of the top 50 schools. Room and board at the College is $6,000, and student fees are included with tuition.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Centre College in the top 10 of liberal arts colleges that offer the best value in education. There are factors other than tuition/room and board costs that go into this ranking.

"Centre has worked hard to remain one of the nation's best values," said Carey Thompson, dean of admission and student financial planning at Centre. "We owe a lot to our alumni. They give to help make this happen and lead the nation in annual giving percentage."

In addition to its nation-leading affordability, Centre also offers need-based financial aid and merit scholarships. More than 80 percent of Centre students receive financial assistance and more than half need-based financial aid. Competitive scholarships at Centre are available to nearly 50 percent of each freshman class, valued from $18,000 to more than $96,000.

Centre has the highest national ranking of any Kentucky college or university and has been singled out for overall praise by the increasingly influential National Survey of Student Engagement.
