RELEASED: May 9, 2002
DANVILLE, KY-Centre College senior art majors will present an art exhibit entitled "Walk Through" May 14-26 at the AEGON Gallery in the Jones Visual Arts Center on the Centre campus. A reception for the artists will be held May 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit will also be open on May 26 from noon to 6 p.m.
The 10 exhibiting artists include William Andrus, Jesse Lockett Brown, Lee Burkett, Joshua Harris, Stephanie Ann Holbrook, Katherine Knight, Katherine Lassiter, D.H. McNabb, Peter McPherson and Matt Wilson.
Five of the artists represented in the exhibit have focused on painting and drawing, three have concentrated on ceramics and two have worked with glass. The theme of the human figure is explored realistically and abstractly by five of the artists, while pure abstraction, nonrepresentational form and the vessel are being pursued by the other five.
Works in the show will include large, bright abstract canvases; velvety, dark charcoal drawings; quietly glazed porcelain vessels; large, solid tubes of glass; self-portraits; small ceramic sculptures; pierced stoneware vessels; sandblasted glass sculptures and human figure drawings.
Centre Assistant Professor of Art Judith Pointer Jia said, "The show will be full of interesting and varied works. The scale change and the variety of approaches each artist has taken will give viewers a lot to think about and to enjoy."
