Professor receives teaching honor

DANVILLE, KY-John Wilson, professor of mathematics at Centre College, recently received the 2002 Award for Distinguished Teaching of Mathematics from the Kentucky Section of the Mathematical Association of America.

The MAA is the world's largest professional organization devoted to the interests of collegiate mathematics and undergraduate mathematics education.

With this honor, Wilson is the official Kentucky Section representative in a field of 29 candidates for the national MAA Deborah and Franklin Tepper Haimo Award for Distinguished Teaching of Mathematics.

Wilson has taught at Centre since 1985. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of the South, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He completed master's and doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina.
