| Poetry celebrated at Centre
RELEASED: Mar. 21, 2002
DANVILLE, KY-Centre College will host a poetry reading and performance by Yolantha Pace, a Danville performance artist, educator and poet. The free event will be held on March 28 at 7 p.m. in Weisiger Theatre of Centre's Norton Center for the Arts. The event is titled, "The Vitality of Poetry: Sleepless in Kentucky."
Pace will read works written since she moved to Kentucky three years ago. She comments, "My reading will include part of my poetic journal concerning September 11 and my quest to find a sense of peace during the first 10 days after the horrendous tragedy."
Pace is currently a Performing Arts Specialist for the Kentucky Arts Council and works as an artist in residence across the state of Kentucky. She is the founder of KIDS C.A.N. (Change America Now), a performance arts alternative to drug and gang activity. In February Pace had a play, "Those Were the Days," produced by the Ninth Annual Heritage Festival of Danville.
As a performing arts specialist, Pace remarks that her mission is to "encourage academic excellence and human dignity through the pursuit of the arts and humanities."
