Seniors to showcase their distinctive art

RELEASED: May 8, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Centre College senior art majors will present an art exhibit titled "Four Mediums" from May 13-26 at the Gallery in the Jones Visual Arts Center on the Centre campus. A public reception for the artists will be held May 16, 4-5:30 p.m.

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit will also be open on May 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The four exhibiting artists are Anna Bynum, Dannielle Carroll, McKinley Moore and Emil Robinson.

The four media used by the artists are: paint, stoneware, glass and paper.

Robinson has created dramatic, large oil paintings that feature figures placed in interesting, often isolated settings. Carroll's work consists of tall, narrow ceramic vessels inspired by plant forms. Moore will be exhibiting sculptural blown-glass objects, many of which have been cut, polished and reassembled. Finally, Bynum will present paper collages that are large, colorful and non-objective.

Centre art professor Judith Jia comments, "The four different media and the distinct approach each artist takes will ensure that every visitor to this exhibit will find something to their liking. On the wall they will find figurative paintings and non-objective collages, and on pedestals they'll see tall, subtly glazed vessels as well as small color-saturated glass objects. There'll be a number of artworks by each artist, and the variety among them should make for an interesting show."

Some of the pieces will be for sale.
