| Men's basketball team replaces assistant coach position
RELEASED: Sept. 9, 2003 DANVILLE, KY-Centre men's basketball coach Greg Mason will have some very familiar faces helping him on the bench this winter. Stacey Hall and Eddie Mason have been named part-time assistant basketball coaches for the 2003-04 season. They replace assistant coach Chris Armstrong, who has resigned. Hall, a 1995 Centre graduate who played basketball with Mason for the Colonels, joins Centre after resigning as the head coach for the Mercer County boys' basketball team. In 2000 Hall, who earned his master's degree at Eastern Kentucky University, led Mercer County to its first-ever Sweet 16 appearance. Hall coached Centre senior Jason Atwell at Mercer County. Atwell, a 6-foot-5 junior guard, led the Colonels in scoring last year at 14.3 points per contest and was named first-team all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Hall will also serve as the head coach for the Colonels' junior varsity team. Eddie Mason, Greg's father, was a longtime head coach (1987-92) and assistant coach at Shelby County High School. He was an assistant for the 1978 Shelby County team that won the state championship. Eddie Mason will primarily assist Greg Mason with administrative duties. "I'm excited about the season and pleased to have two former head coaches with their degree of experience and success as part of our team," said Greg Mason, who played for his father at Shelby County and was a four-year starter at Centre (1990-94). "Ideally, we'd like to have a bit more time than this to recruit an assistant coach, but I'm confident that we've come up with a combination that will work well for the men's basketball program at Centre," said Brian Chafin, athletic director at Centre.
