RELEASED: March 27, 2003
DANVILLE, KYCentre College baseball player Chris Bennett has been named Player of the Week in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound sophomore first baseman from Louisville had 14 hits in 23 at bats in games played March 11-16.
Bennett knocked in 13 runs including two doubles and three home runs. Against Kenyon College, Bennett hit a two-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Colonels a 7-5 victory.
"Chris is hotter than any hitter I've ever seen," said Coach Ed Rall. "He's hitting for average and power, and pitchers need to pitch around him right now. I hope he keeps it up."
Centre's next home baseball games are April 1 and 2 versus Alice Lloyd.
