CATS to open Norton Center season

DANVILLE, KY—CATS, the longest running musical in the history of Broadway and the British West End, will open the 2003-2004 season at Centre College's Norton Center for the Arts.

The production will take place at 8 p.m. in Newlin Hall on Sept. 24.

CATS opened in 1981 at the New London Theatre in the West End and in 1982 at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.

In 1983, CATS, which is based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, won seven Tony Awards including best musical, best book of a musical, best lighting and best costumes.

Since its opening, CATS has been seen by more than 8 million people.
