|Centre Singers begin concert tour

DANVILLE, KYThe Centre Singers will begin a one-week southeastern concert tour on March 21. The 24-member choir will give public concerts in Knoxville, Tenn.; Atlanta; Valdosta, Ga.; and Winter Park, Fla.
The Centre Singers will perform sacred works by Josquin des Prez, Wipo of Burgundy, and Ron Jeffers as well as the Mass in G Major by Franz Schubert.
Traditional American and Shaker songs and spirituals will also be featured on their programs.
The Centre Singers will conclude their tour at home by giving a performance on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Danville.
Chosen by audition, the choir consists of students majoring in the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences or mathematics. The Centre Singers repertoire includes music from the 11th century to the present, from masses and cantatas to the songs of Bernstein and Gershwin. Regular touring in the United States alternates annually with a Christmas feast on the Centre campus that combines music, dance and drama.
The director and conductor of the Centre Singers, Barbara Hall, joined the Centre College faculty in 1980. She has served as associate academic dean of the College and chair of the humanities division, and she's currently chair of the music program. She received her doctorate in conducting from Indiana University, and she conducts three College ensembles.
The members of the Centre Singers are Leigh Brown, Adam Browne, Missy Crowley, Emery Denby, Caitlin Donohue, Maggie Florence, Katherine Foley, Strother Gaines, Jessica Graff, Kate Hampshire, Laura Hellebusch, Matt Helmstetter, Jessie Hinson, Jason King, Katie Lander, Tommy Landrum, Jonathan Lanham, Sarah McKain, Leah Newton, Ginger Pennington, Jackie Smith, Josh Smith and Elizabeth Tammen.
The group's accompanist is Davis Cherry.
