Acclaimed writer and poet to read works on campus

DANVILLE, KYThe Centre College English Program will sponsor a poetry and fiction reading by acclaimed writer and poet Kelly Cherry on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Norton Center Board Room on campus.
Cherry, the CentreTerm Writer-in-Residence, is living on campus and teaching a fiction-writing workshop.
Cherry has published 27 books, and her poems have appeared in more than 450 magazines and anthologies including the Atlantic, Parnassus and Esquire. Her most recent book of poetry, Rising Venus, has been described as revealing "the fearsome beauty, vulnerability, and complexity of women's experience."
Cherry's writing has taken her all over the world, including the Philippines, Latvia, England, Scotland, Yalta, and throughout the United States. Her work has been translated into Russian, Latvian, Chinese, Czech, Spanish, German, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, Lithuanian, and Ukrainian.
Cherry is an Emerita Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and she has served as Eminent Scholar in the Humanities at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. She resides in Virginia.
