Running down an Olympic dream

Centre graduate leaves corporate world for chance at 2004 Olympics

RELEASED: Jan. 2, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Jason Mayeroff, a 1991 graduate of Centre College, is not your average 34 year old.

He left a job that was paying him handsomely. He usually runs up to 180 miles per week.

What would possess someone to do such things?

Mayeroff recently qualified for the 2004 Olympic Trials in Birmingham, Ala. He lives and trains in Thailand.

He said his love of running was too strong, and he had to get back into it after a hiatus. Mayeroff, who ran track and field at Centre, has his own business now, dealing in intellectual property patents.

"I really think I can make the Olympic team. I really think so," Mayeroff says. "It's going to take a little bit of luck. But if I don’t make it, that's OK, as long as I'm having fun and traveling around and meeting some interesting people."
