Tennessee student gets in touch with nature

RELEASED: July 17, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Erin Henegar, who will be a junior at Centre College in the fall, has advanced from pupil to teacher since she finished classes in May.

Henegar was the first person selected for the George W. Fry Endowed Chair at the Great Smoky Mountains Institute in Tennessee. Teaching is one of her duties. She's leading classes of youth and helping the children learn more about nature. She's also working as a researcher, trying to locate all living species in a 500,000-acre park in the Smokies.

"This is like a dream job," said Henegar, an English major and environmental science minor from Maryville, Tenn.

Tne Knoxville News-Sentinel wrote a feature on Hengar's adventures this summer.
