Greek organizations have another solid year of service

RELEASED: July. 24, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Greek organizations at Centre College helped several organizations for the 2002-03 academic year.

Centre's Greek system, which has a total of nine fraternities and sororities, raised more than $30,000 and logged more than 4,000 hours of service.

"The Greek organizations expanded their ideas and enhanced the quality of service," Renie Moss, director of student activities said. "The service projects have had a strong impact on the community and enhanced the experience for student leaders."

The Ronald McDonald house, Jenny Rogers after-school program, the United Way, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Locks of Love and Danville community programs were just a few of the philanthropies benefited by the Centre Greeks service.

"Service and philanthropic activities enhance the Greek experience for members," Moss said. "Individual leadership skills and a sense of pride in the organizations are brought about through this work. Centre has a long history of service. Greek students at Centre support this tradition through the meaningful service they provide to the local, regional and national community each year."

"Service is critical to the continued existence of the Greek organizations because they have a responsibility to the larger community." Patrick Noltemeyer, director of Greek life said.
