Senior profile: Dave Hewitt

A look at one of Centre's outstanding seniors

RELEASED: Oct. 2, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Name: Dave Hewitt

Hometown: Lexington, Ky.

Major: Biology

Study abroad/internships: "I did a six-week internship at The Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. I'm looking into an internship opportunity in Bolivia for the upcoming CentreTerm."

Extracurricular activities: Resident director of Nevin Hall, men's soccer, Sigma Chi fraternity, Pre-Medical Society president, Emergency Medical Technician, Gamma Sigma Alpha, Order of Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, Tri-Beta.

How do you find the time do so many things? "I enjoy all the activities I'm involved in, so I never really get burnt out. I've found that whether I'm extremely busy or not I still do the same amount of homework each day, so my activities don't really take away from my academics. Centre does facilitate students to become involved in numerous campus organizations. Certain times of the day are set aside for specific activities, which minimizes time conflicts. I do get some scheduling conflicts, but the people I work with are very understanding and respect that I have other obligations."

Are you following the women's World Cup? Favorite women's player? "I'm really enjoying watching all these great games. It's exciting to see the best players in the world go head to head, especially when the teams have contrasting styles of play. My favorite player is Mia Hamm. She is so small, but she's very aggressive and plays with a lot of heart."

What others say about Dave: "Dave has been on the residence life staff for three years. I knew he was committed to residence life when he requested to be the RD of the main freshman men's hall two years in a row," says Sarah Scott Hall, director of residence life and counseling. "Dave is a wonderful role model because of his excellent balance of academics, athletics, and student leadership. He's been a pleasure to work with."

Future plans: "Hopefully I'll be in medical school at the University of Kentucky next year. My little brother is a sophomore basketball player at Lexington Catholic High School, so I'd like to be around to see him play."

Quotable: "I feel Centre has me well-prepared for the real world. The extra-curricular activities I've been involved in, combined with the academic and social arenas, have armed me with valuable experience and maturity. This well-rounded education gives me confidence in my ability to succeed."
