| Senior interns for CBS in New York
RELEASED: Aug. 21, 2003
Ledford, a senior anthropology/sociology major, spent the summer as an intern for news productions at the CBS Broadcasting Center in New York City. The Danville native landed the internship while studying abroad in Strasbourg, France. As luck would have it, Centre President John Roush was visiting Strasbourg at the time and had dinner at our apartment the night I had the interview, Ledford said. He gave me advice during dinner and boosted my self-confidence right before I got my phone call. President Roushs advice to her was to be confident that youre capable. Do your best and keep aiming high. Ledford learned of the opportunity through Centres Career Services Web page (http://web.centre.edu/careerd/). Several people at Centre helped her with recommendations, coached her before her interview and even advised her on housing options in New York. Ledford worked with a team consisting of an executive producer, producer, editor, associate producer and broadcasting assistant that produces shows for CBS, along with A&E, the History Channel and the Discovery Channel. One of her projects included an A&E biography show on Andrew Luster. The heir to Max Factor was charged with crimes, fled, and was later captured in Mexico. The show, which aired on June 18, was produced in five days instead of the usual 10 weeks. Ledford was listed as an associate producer. She also worked on a five-part series for the History Channel on this years war with Iraq. Her last day was cut short because of the blackout in New York. It was cool to see how the city handled a crisis, she said. Ledford has enjoyed her time in New York but is also looking forward to returning to campus. Living in New York and working five days a week for eight hours a day has given me a good sense of the real world, but I really miss student life at Centre, she said. Im glad I still have one year left, and I think Ill appreciate my senior year more now because of my experiences this summer. As far as after her senior year, Ledford is keeping her options open. Im meeting a lot of highly intelligent and successful people who are good contacts and have good advice for someone like me whos just starting out. Ledford has also completed an internship with KET2 in Louisville and an externship with the Kentucky New Era in Hopkinsville. - end - For news archives go to http://www.centre.edu/web/news/newsarchive.html.
