Princeton Review has high praise for Centre
Ranked sixth in the nation for "accessible professors"
RELEASED: Aug. 28, 2003
DANVILLE, KYThe Princeton Review, a leading college guidebook, has selected Centre College as one of the top colleges in the country for the sixth straight year.
Centre is listed along with schools such as Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford and Amherst.
Rankings for The Best 351 Colleges: 2004 Edition are based on surveys of more than 106,000 students at the 351 colleges in the book. Students were asked 70 questions about their own school's academics, campus life and student body, as well as their study hours, politics, and opinions.
Centre's faculty and campus atmosphere received high marks in the guidebook.
Centre, one of only three Kentucky colleges listed (Bellarmine and the University of Kentucky were the other two), was ranked sixth out of the 351 schools in the category of professors who make themselves accessible to students.
"People here are committed to our undergraduate studies," explained one Centre student in the book. "They are eager for us to succeed, so they make themselves available to us all the time. They even give us their home telephone numbers and invite us into their homes for Christmas parties and stuff."
Centre ranked 15th in the category of happiest students.
Undergraduates at Centre described the campus as peaceful and near idyllic.
Wrote one undergraduate, "At Centre everyone on campus is either going to school there, teaching there, working there, or lives in town, and everyone says 'hi' to each other when they pass on the sidewalks."
