Football team wins SCAC title

RELEASED: Nov. 20, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—The Centre football team beat visiting Rose-Hulman by a hair on Saturday, Nov. 15. And because of that, coach Andy Frye has more victories and less hair.

With the 21-19 come-from-behind victory the Colonels finished the season 8-2 and won a share of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship, Centre's first conference title in football since 1995. Centre was 5-1 in the SCAC, sharing the conference championship with Trinity.

Before the season Frye told his team he'd shave his head if it won the conference title. Although he doesn't have a completely bare dome, he's now sporting a pretty nice buzz cut.

Frye credited his senior class with helping the football program progress to this level. The Colonels have a 23-7 record during the past three seasons.

Centre seniors are: Stephen Dexter, Lorenzo Engleman, John Fox, John Jennings, Patrick Newman, John Ortega, Solomon Parker, Adam Schneider, Sean Smith, Kevin Tytus and Nate Woodall.
