Centre College honors employees

DANVILLE—Seven employees of Centre College were recognized with service awards during the school’s annual employee appreciation dinner Tuesday, May 20. They are Cindy Arnold, Marvin Eaton, Georgie Heizer, Sharon Rogers-Hinkle, Sherry Martin, Earl Mullins and Marlene Settles.

In addition, the college recognized retiring employees, outstanding teachers, and individuals who’ve reached milestones of service to the college, ranging from five to 40 years.

Eaton, a zone mechanic with facilities management who has worked at Centre since 1997, received the Horky Service Award. This award was created by a bequest from John and Lorette Horky of Danville to honor the unique and exemplary service to Centre. Heizer and Mullins received Special Awards.

Arnold, Rogers-Hinkle, Martin and Settles were honored with Centre Recognition Awards, which salute persons who have unselfishly served the college community.

Arnold has been an administrative assistant for the president’s office since 1998. Heizer, who is retiring, has worked at the Centre Shoppes book store for the past 10 years. The book store is run by a national book store company. Rogers-Hinkle, box office manager at Centre’s Norton Center for the Arts, has worked at the school for 20 years. Martin, a nine-year member of the Centre community, is a registered nurse at Parsons Student Health Center. Mullins has worked for Centre food service since 1988. Settles has worked at Centre since 1976. She works in accounts payable.

Retirees recognized were Herb McGuire, Rovenia Johnson and Viola Singleton.

The Kirk Award for excellence in teaching went to Larry Bitensky, assistant professor of music; Michael Hamm, Ewing T. Boles Professor of History; Lori Hartmann-Mahmud, assistant professor of international studies; Jennifer Muzyka, associate professor of chemistry; Mark Rasmussen, associate professor of English; and Rob Ziemba, visiting assistant professor of biology.

The Kirk Award was endowed by a gift from a member of the board of trustees in 1995. The endowment has recognized excellent teachers on Centre’s faculty every year since 1996.

Persons reaching milestones of service were: 40 years—Herb McGuire and Willie Pryor; 35 years—Peggy Kelley and Jackie Lewis; 30 years—Don Brown, Wayne King and Brad Nystrom; 25 years—Bob Brownlee, Tim Culhan, Jane Joyce, Diane Pasick and Gary Richardson; 20 years—George Foreman, Steve Powell, Sharon Rogers-Hinkle and Sheldon Tapley; 15 years—Chris Barton, Beth Glazier-McDonald, Brenda Gorley, Mykol Hamilton, Bill Johnston, Jerry Meyer, Phyllis Passariello and Ed Rall; 10 years—Vince DiMartino, Keith Dunn, Randy Hays, Elaine Larson, Anne Lubbers, Yvonne Morley, Jim Morrison, Gina Nicoletti, Tom Sturgeon and Joe Workman; 5 years—Karen Abbey, Cindy Arnold, Glenda Beaven, Phyllis Bellver, Larry Bitensky, Jessica Coleman, Steve Csaki, David DeWitt, Stephanie Dragan, Marsha Edelen, Judith Jia, Laura Keown, Scott Messer, Rebecca Miller, Michael Preston, Rose-Marie Roessler, John Roush, Carey Thompson, Seth Thompson and Angie Young.
