DANVILLE, KY—Centre cross country coach Lisa Owens said that Eileen Schilling had the type of season any senior runner would dream of.

That Schilling is a freshman runner for the Colonels makes her season all the more remarkable. Schilling finished 35th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Hanover, Ind., to earn All-American honors.

Schilling, from Louisville, Ky., ran the 6-kilometer course in 22 minutes, 59 seconds, a personal best. The top 35 runners are named to the All-American squad. There were 213 runners in the race.

The freshman sensation had an outstanding year, breaking Centre's 5K school record and then topping her mark throughout the season.

Schilling wasn't the only Centre athlete making waves.

In football, senior running back Lorenzo Engleman was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Year. He led the SCAC in all-purpose yardage. He helped lead the Colonels to an 8-2 record and a share of the SCAC title. Besides Engleman, 13 other Colonels were named to the first or second all-conference team.

In women's soccer, Jessica Chisley was named Defensive Player of the Year in the SCAC. The senior goalie from Frankfort, Ky., had six shutouts on the season. She was an all-conference member all four years, only the fourth SCAC women's soccer player ever to accomplish the feat.

Kate Bennett of Louisville, Ky., a freshman volleyball player, was named SCAC Freshman of the Year.

In men's soccer, senior Dave Hewitt of Lexington, Ky., was named third-team Academic All-American. A biology major who plans to attend medical school, Hewitt holds a 3.71 GPA.
