Trustees break ground on The College Centre

RELEASED: April 17, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—The Centre College board of trustees met Friday, April 11, on campus to take part in an important chapter of the College's future.

The board was on hand for a groundbreaking ceremony for The College Centre—a $22 million construction and renovation of Crounse Academic Center and Sutcliffe Hall that will create a state-of-the-art academic and recreation/athletic complex.

Crounse Academic Center is to gain 30,000 additional square feet. The new building will be a 100,000-square-foot cutting-edge educational facility. Originally built in 1967, Crounse is the main academic building on campus and includes the library.

The renovation and expansion of Sutcliffe Hall, originally constructed in 1915 with a 1962 expansion, will result in a modern 122,000-square-foot fitness, recreation and athletic facility. The nearly 63,000 square feet of new construction will more than double the size of the current facility.

Work will begin on The College Centre immediately. The projected completion date is spring 2005.

The board will meet again in October.
