Graduate's inspirational story chronicled in Courier-Journal

RELEASED: Dec. 23, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Adrianne Tyson '02 is a walking success story. She lived in one of the roughest areas in Louisville, Ky., and had a trying family life. The conventional expectation is that many who grow up in such an environment won't have bright prospects for the future. Tyson, however, turns this notion on its head.

Thanks in part to a unique educational program, Tyson graduated from Centre with a double major in English and anthropology/sociology, was a dean's list student and studied abroad in several countries. Today, she works in a management-training program in Louisville, owns a home and is planning to pursue a master's degree in business administration.

Tyson's story and how Project Vision—a program that has helped Louisville youth attend college—came into being was featured in a front-page article in Saturday's Louisville Courier-Journal.

Tyson and other Project Vision participants recall the special relationship they had with the program's founders. Project Vision is considered is one of the nation's most impressive examples of personalized philanthropy.
