Student hopes to change world through his VOYAGE

RELEASED: Aug. 7, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Centre student Nate Olson has a pretty big goal in mind these days: He and his group of friends are out to change the world.

That's the plan for VOYAGE (Voices of Young Americans for Global Engagement), an eight-member group of exceptional young people that Olson has founded.

The group will speak out for what they describe as a socially responsible vision of America's global role. VOYAGE hopes to bring young people to the forefront in discussing and dealing with world issues. They plan to do this with a series of opinion/editorial pieces, radio and television appearances, and speeches on college campuses.

Olson, a rising senior who is a double-major in government and economics, has formed an impressive group. It includes a Rhodes Scholar, staff members of the Carter Center's Conflict Resolution Program, a U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant, as well as others with amazing resumes built in a short time frame.

VOYAGE and Olson were featured in Sunday's Louisville Courier-Journal. To see the article, go to http://www.courier-journal.com/features/2003/08/20030803voyage.html.

Olson, a native of Owensboro, Ky., interned last summer with The Carter Center's Conflict Resolution Program in Atlanta. He's had several opinion pieces appear in newspapers throughout Kentucky, including the Courier-Journal and Lexington Herald-Leader. He will travel to Ethiopia Aug. 22-31 as a delegate for VOYAGE before returning to Centre in September.
