College Centre project off and running

RELEASED: July 17, 2003

DANVILLE, KY—Lots of activity is taking place in front of Centre's Sutfcliffe Hall and Crounse Academic Center this week with heavy equipment moving in to position and building materials being shipped in.

That means one thing: The College Centre is beginning to become a reality.

The College Centre is a $22 million construction and renovation project for Sutcliffe Hall and Crounse Academic Center. It will create a state-of-the-art academic and recreation/athletic complex.

Since 96 percent of students live on campus, Centre is more than just a place where students attend class. They spend the majority of their time working, studying, playing and socializing on the 115-acre campus.

Highlights of the upgrade to Crounse include an expanded Grace Doherty Library with additional space for 80,000 volumes; more computer capabilities and classroom technology; and additional office and classroom space.

Highlights of Sutcliffe include a renovated Alumni Gymnasium; new strength and free weight areas; several new recreational courts for multiple sports; a new Athletic Hall of Fame; new locker rooms for faculty, staff, students and athletes; and new classrooms.

The grand opening for the facility is slated for the fall of 2005.
