| Application deadline for prospective students is Feb. 1
RELEASED: Jan. 22, 2004
Students can complete the two-part paper application and submit by mail, or can apply online with no fee by visiting http://www.centre.edu/web/admission/howtoapply.html. Those applying by Feb. 1 will receive notification of their acceptance to the College by March 15. This year Centre expects to receive a record of nearly 1,500 applications for a freshman class of approximately 300 students. Centre is also hosting Junior Day on Feb. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for high school juniors interested in attending the college. Sessions about Centre, the college search process, a liberal arts education and financial aid are available for juniors and their parents. Students and their families will also have an opportunity to tour campus. For more information on Junior Day, call (800) 423-6236 or e-mail admission@centre.edu. Students can also register online at http://www.centre.edu/web/admission/openhouse.html. "We moved our first junior open house to February because it's a very good program for students who are just beginning their college search," said Bob Nesmith, associate director of admission at Centre. "The sessions are not merely Centre specific, but address broader issues of choosing and applying to colleges." Financial aid applications are due Feb. 15. See http://www.centre.edu/web/admission/financial/ for more information. More than 80 percent of Centre students receive financial assistance, nearly 60 percent receive need-based financial aid and more than half receive merit-based scholarships. Centre College is rated a top-50 national liberal arts institution by U.S. News & World Report, and the College is the most affordable of that group. - end - For news archives go to http://www.centre.edu/web/news/newsarchive.html.
