|Professor's new glass art on display

DANVILLE, KYNew artwork by Stephen Rolfe Powell, Stodghill Professor of Art at Centre, can be viewed starting tomorrow at the Tobin-Hewett Gallery in Louisville.
Powell's stunning glass vessels are the highlight of Balance, an exhibition running Sept. 3 through Oct. 29. An opening reception will be held at the gallery Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Powell will be on hand to autograph exhibition catalogues.
Powell, a 1974 Centre graduate, is an internationally known artist whose elaborately colored glass vessels are held in permanent collections throughout the world. These display sites include the Hermitage Museum in Russia, the Lvov Art Institute in the Ukraine, the Detroit Art Institute, the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Birmingham (Ala.) Museum of Art, and the Huntsville (Ala.) Museum of Art.
