Educating the World One Bumper at a Time

RELEASED: Oct. 14, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—"Are you from Centre?"

That's a bit of an unusual inquiry when you're in a parking lot in Florida.

Tyler Miller, a sophomore from Bowling Green, Ky., was asked just that during a visit to Destin, Fla., this summer.

A woman who had pulled into a parking space next to Miller noticed the Centre bumper sticker on his car. She had a family member who had attended Centre, and she and the student discovered they had mutual Centre acquaintances.

"It was an interesting experience," Miller says. "I talked about it with my mother later that day, and she said I shouldn't really be surprised. My mother [Mary Ellen Miller '81] said that she sees someone who went to Centre or see some type of Centre identification—a license plate or bumper sticker—at least three times a month."

If you have an interesting tale of spotting (or being spotted with) a Centre bumper sticker or license plate, please share you story with the Centre Communications Office by e-mailing Brant Welch at welch@centre.edu.

You can also contact us if you'd like to receive a free Centre bumper sticker and be a part of the College's "Educating the World One Bumper at a Time" campaign. Rectangular and oval cling stickers are also available. For more on how to obtain a Centre license plate, go to http://www.centre.edu/web/alumni/licenseplate.html.
