The College Centre is taking shape

RELEASED: June 3, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—Centre's already attractive campus continues to improve as The College Centre project takes shape.

The College Centre is a $22-million expansion and renovation of Sutcliffe Athletic Center and Crounse Academic Center. It will create a state-of-the-art academic and recreation/athletic complex. The grand opening for the facility is slated for the spring of 2005.

Crounse has now been enclosed, allowing construction to proceed on the interior. Drywall has been installed in several areas and sheet metal, plumbing and electrical work is on schedule.
Masonry work is progressing well, with stone and brick being installed on the northwest end of the building.

Highlights of the upgrade to Crounse include an expanded Grace Doherty Library with additional space for 60,000 volumes, more computer capabilities and classroom technology, and additional office and classroom space.

Steel work is almost complete on Sutcliffe. The roof insulation is being installed and track support iron is going into place. Concrete floors have been poured and are near completion, and the air distribution systems are installed.

Highlights of Sutcliffe include renovated gymnasiums, new strength and free-weight areas in the Buck Fitness Center, glass racquetball courts, a new three-lane running track and a new aerobics room.

Since most students live on campus, Centre is more than just a place where students attend class. They spend the majority of their time working, studying, playing and socializing on the 115-acre campus. The College Centre will add exciting new dimensions to the educational and recreational experience of the college's students. And it's moving closer to completion with each passing week.
