| College newspaper wins 11 awards at state competition
RELEASED: Mar. 4, 2004
The Cento competes in Division B, which is open to any Kentucky school with an enrollment of fewer than 5,000. "Compared to the budget, staff size and journalism-specific programs that feed into other Kentucky collegiate newspapers, I think The Cento is an excellent representative for Centre College," said Stacy Ann Hoehle, editor of The Cento. "These awards show the dedication and talent of staff members both this year and last year." Five staff members were honored with first-place awards: Hoehle, LaGrange, Ky., for advertising art; sophomore Matt Steinfeld, Hopkinsville, Ky., for news story; senior Jimmy Metzger, New York City, for sports news story; senior Lisa Brown, Louisville, for comic strip; and 2003 Centre graduate Brendan Adkins, Richmond, Ky., for comic strip. Second-place winners were: Hoehle for advertising copy; and sophomore Tony Stefater, Louisville, for sports feature.
Senior Claire Trivedi, Floyds Knobs, Ind., received honorable mention for editorial and the staff received an honorable mention for the opinion pages category. "The competition throughout the state is very impressive," said Cento staffer Raven Turner of Hardyville, Ky. "There are a lot of talented college journalists and editors. However, alongside the other papers, I was still quite impressed with our own product. The Cento is a paper to be proud of." The Cento is a student-based, bi-monthly publication. - end - For news archives go to http://www.centre.edu/web/news/newsarchive.html. Communications Office Centre College 600 W.
