The coolest room at Centre

RELEASED: April 1, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—More than 700 votes were tallied for the coolest room on Centre's campus. It was a tight competition, but sophomores Sarah Smith of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Lisa Cloud of Benton, Ky., have the best pad on campus according to the voters.

Smith and Cloud have turned their Cheek Hall room into a cozy, comfortable living space. Complete with wall-to-wall carpet, extra bookshelves, a starched fabric wall hanging, and a variety of personal accents, their home away from home encompasses self-expression and functionality.

Smith and Cloud will receive a $50 prize and a lunch with Centre president John Roush.

Junior Jon Capps of Knoxville, Tenn., was first runner-up in the voting. Runners-up will receive gift certificates from local restaurants. In addition to the certificates, Capps will receive a C6-H0 poster, a Centre 100 poster, and a BillyBlues CD.

Honorable mention winners were sophomores Bana Mehrbakhsh of Hazard, Ky., Sam Ruth of Knoxville, and John Carrithers of Goshen, Ky., and freshmen Mary Jane Saunier of Winchester, Ky., and Marilyn Osborn of Prospect, Ky.

Centre's Communications Office photographed and judged more than 30 rooms for the contest on the basis of color, creativity, decorations, theme and overall look. The contest committee selected the final five rooms. The campus, prospective students and Internet community voted online to determine the winner.

Be on the lookout in coming weeks for a new feature on the Centre Web site—Cool Rooms at Centre—featuring many of the contest rooms as well as other rooms around campus.
