Hoffman appointed to coach Centre women's soccer

RELEASED: July 22, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—Former Centre College soccer player Jay Hoffman has been selected to replace Gina Nicoletti as the head women’s soccer coach at Centre College. Nicoletti was recently promoted to direct the new Buck Fitness Center at the college.

In addition to coaching soccer, Hoffman will serve as the assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach under head coach Matt Vonderbrink and teach in the department’s health and human performance program.

“Jay was the perfect fit for our needs,” said Athletic Director Brian Chafin. “He’s first and foremost an excellent teacher, an experienced soccer coach and he was a standout tennis player in high school. If he hadn’t played soccer at Centre, he most likely would have been on the tennis team.”

Hoffman was a regional All-American on the men’s soccer team at Centre from 1992 to 1996. He was captain of the team that went 17-1-1 and upset the reigning national champions, Bethany College, with a goal that he scored in overtime. He also holds a license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).

Since 1996, he’s been a teacher at the Woodlawn Elementary School in Danville. Hoffman has also served as an assistant coach with the Centre men’s soccer team, head coach of the Lexington Futbol Club, head boys’ coach at Boyle County High School and coach for the Kentucky Olympic Development Program.

“Jay not only brings a wealth of knowledge to our women’s program, his enthusiasm will be infectious and he’ll be an excellent team player in our department,” Chafin said. “I’m excited about this appointment, and I feel our women’s soccer program will be in good hands with Jay Hoffman as its leader.”
