Alumni nationally famous for loyalty return home

DANVILLE, KY—The 2004 Centre College Homecoming celebration will be packed with events Oct. 22-23.

Homecoming activities begin Friday, Oct. 22, with an all-day reception at the Chenault Alumni House.

Alumni are encouraged to stop by the AEGON Gallery at the Jones Visual Arts Center to view an art exhibit featuring oil paintings by Lori Ellis. The exhibit will be open both days.

The Homecoming Gala featuring Grammy award-winning singer/guitarist Johnny Rivers (pictured) takes place Friday at 8:30 p.m. at Newlin Hall in Centre's Norton Center for the Arts.

The annual Homecoming 5K race begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Young Hall.

At 10:30 later that morning, the pool at Boles Natatorium will be dedicated in the honor of Craig W. Johnson '75.

The Alumni Recognition Ceremony takes place Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon in Weisiger Theatre.

This year's honorees are Distinguished Alumnus Award recipients Daniel G. Colley '64, Benjamin L. Dickinson '64 and Washio Ishii '60; Young Alumnus Award recipient David H. Greer '92; and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Wendie Austin-Robinson '94, John V. Boardman, Jr. '74 (posthumous), David J. Hicks '91, Thomas J. Turley Jr. '16 (posthumous) and Matt Vonderbrink '80.

Following the ceremony, an alumni luncheon will take place at Cowan Dining Commons.

The football team faces rival Trinity at 2:30 p.m. The Homecoming king and queen will be announced at halftime.

Other Saturday sporting events include women's soccer versus Thomas More at 11:30 a.m.; the volleyball team takes on DePauw at 11 a.m. and Rose-Hulman at 1:30 p.m.; men's soccer plays Thomas More at 1:30 p.m.; and the field hockey team receives at visit from DePauw at 4 p.m.

After the sporting contests, class reunions will be held at various locations from 6 to 9 p.m.

To conclude the evening, a dinner at the Danville Country Club will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Alumni and current students can enjoy CentreFest, a street party on Walnut Street from 9 p.m. until midnight. Centre-based band BILLYBLUES will open from 9-10 p.m. for the Southern rock headliners Jupiter Coyote, who will begin their performance at 10:15 p.m.
