RELEASED: Feb. 19, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—A class at Centre is making news weeks after the course has ended.

"Basketball as Religion," a CentreTerm course that looks at basketball and other sports in order to learn about religion, has been featured in numerous publications and programs.

The course was mentioned on today's Paul Harvey "News and Comment" radio program at noon. To hear the segment, which is broadcast across the world to more than 1,200 radio stations, go to www.paulharvey.com. Paul Harvey's show is the No. 1 radio program in the nation and has more than 22 million listeners.

The class has also been covered in a national Associated Press article, The Chronicle of Higher Education, the Memphis Commercial Appeal, the Louisville Courier-Journal, the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the Evansville (Ind.) Courier-Press and the Lexington Herald-Leader. It's also been featured on WTVQ-TV (Channel 36) of Lexington.

National Public Radio sent a reporter to Centre's campus earlier this week to interview David Hall, assistant professor of religion at the college, Dean John Ward and students of the class. The four-minute segment will air March 13 on the NPR weekly sports show "It's Only A Game," which starts at 7 a.m. (EST).

Hall developed and taught the course for Centre's innovative three-week term in January in which students take one class designed by a faculty member. To learn more on the class, see http://www.centre.edu/web/news/2004/hoops04.html.

In addition, the CentreTerm course "The Art of Walking" was featured in a recent Herald-Leader story. The class is taught by Ken Keffer, professor of modern languages.
