| O'Brien joins student life office
RELEASED: Nov. 18, 2004
Originally from Atlanta, O'Brien earned her master's degree in higher education administration from Texas Tech University, where she gained experience with residence and Greek life and discovered that she enjoyed programming activities and teaching life skills to students. O'Brien says that she has been pleasantly surprised so far with students' enthusiasm and involvement on Centre's campus. She was particularly impressed at the independence of the Students Activities Council. "Student input is very important to keep students captivated and they should be given the opportunity for event planning," she says. "I'm here to give student organizations support and to be a resource for them," she adds. "I wouldn't have a job without the students." O'Brien's duties include working with various campus programs and organizations to develop a student activities calendar. She'll also work with the Student Government Association to develop programs and looks forward to planning activities in the new gymnasium once it has been completed. "The student life staff is very excited about Megan's arrival," says Randy Hays, vice president and dean of student life at Centre. "I really believe she's going to be a great addition to the student life office team and to the Centre community." - end - Founded in 1819, Centre College is ranked among the U.S. News top 50 national liberal arts colleges.
