| Centre Orchestra Gives Fall Concert

The 26-member student orchestra will perform works by Bach, Corelli, Grieg, Prokofieff and others. Featured soloists include senior Candace Davis of Hopkinsville, Ky., freshman Leslie Hast of Owensboro, Ky., and junior Matt Lane of Louisville, Ky. (pictured). Conductor Steven Pederson is in his second year as the orchestra director and clarinet/oboe teacher at Centre. He has conducted the West Virginia Chamber Orchestra, the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Conway Orchestra, and the University of Kansas Contemporary Ensemble. Pederson received his bachelor's of Music Education from Wartburg College and his M.A. in clarinet performance from the University of Iowa. He has completed the course work for a D.M.A. in conducting from the University of Kansas. Pederson has completed two textbooks in music conducting and pedagogy. Centre's music program offers a wide variety of performance and academic opportunities. Any Centre student may take private lessons, participate in ensembles, and take courses ranging from music theory and history to world music and jazz history. The music program at Centre offers music scholarships to students who show outstanding promise in music, regardless of intended major.
