Cruising down the Centre highway at No. 1

RELEASED: Nov. 18, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—Centre has claimed the No. 1 spot once again. The Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) has announced that the College sold more specialty license plates than any other private college in the state in 2003.

Centre had 460 of the 2,592 sales and renewals or 18 percent of the total. Each plate sold resulted in a $10 contribution to Centre's general scholarship fund.

"It's always nice to be No. 1—particularly since several of the other Kentucky private colleges have more alumni and most have higher percentages of them who are Kentucky residents," says Shawn Lyons, associate vice president for development and alumni affairs.

Centre President John Roush received a commemorative plaque from AIKCU with Centre license plate number 460. The plate will be displayed in the alumni house.

President Roush echoes Lyons' statements.

"It was good for Centre to be ranked No.1, again," Roush says. "As the Commonwealth's leading national institution, it's gratifying for the College to lead the way in this category, too."

Centre also recently reclaimed the No. 1 spot in alumni annual giving. Centre has finished first in giving percentage 16 of the past 21 years. The College has surpassed the 60-percent mark in annual alumni giving for 23 consecutive years, the only school in the country to do so.

If you're a Kentucky resident and would like to join the hundreds of Centre alumni, students and

friends on the highway, Centre license plates can be ordered through your local county clerk's office.
AIKCU sponsors the special plates.

Collegiate plates cost an extra $10 annually in addition to the regular registration fee of $15. There is also a one-time application fee of $25.

Application forms are available from any Kentucky county clerk's office. Completed forms must be returned to the county clerk's office. Please do not send application forms to Centre.
