Centre picture says it all: We're No. 1

RELEASED: Sept. 16, 2004

DANVILLE, KY—More than 300 members of the Centre community came out last week to celebrate the College’s climb back to the top in annual alumni-giving percentage. Students, faculty, staff and alumni took part in a photo shoot in recognition of Centre being No. 1 in the nation for annual alumni support. Click here for photo.

The photo will appear in Centre publications and in CD ROM. A similar No. 1 photo was taken in 1990 after Centre had claimed the top spot in alumni giving for the seventh straight year.

In addition, Centre was recently rated No. 13 in the nation for alumni support per student by The Chronicle of Higher Education. Princeton, Harvard, Williams, Yale and Swarthmore are other schools joining Centre in this listing, which spotlights institutions receiving exceptionally high alumni support per student.

“While The Chronicle of Higher Education recognizes Centre’s fundraising program as being among the best in the nation, we prefer to think of our alumni donors as being the best in both their loyalty and their generosity,” says Richard Trollinger, vice president for college relations at Centre.

The College received 5,686 alumni gifts during this year’s annual-giving campaign to give it the nation’s highest annual-giving percentage at 63.4. Williams came in second at 63 percent, and Davidson placed third at 62.8.

Centre has finished first in giving percentage 16 of the past 21 years. The College has cracked the 60-percent mark in annual alumni giving for 23 consecutive years, the only school in the country that can make that claim.
