| Centre trustees hold spring meeting
RELEASED: April 19, 2004 DANVILLE, KYThe Centre College board of trustees met Friday, April 16, on campus. The board reviewed positive student recruitment results to date and progress on the College's fundraising campaign. Centre has received a record number of applications this year. Nearly 1,600 applications have been received, 13 percent more than at this time last year. Continuing a trend that began with the vice presidential debate at Centre in 2000, Centre has increased out-of-state applications by almost 30 percent. The Campaign for A More Perfect Centre, the College's largest fundraising effort to date, is well under way with campaign commitments exceeding $81 million. A special student-driven portion of the campaign, The Student Campaign for A More Perfect Centre, has been launched. Members of the Student Government Association, under the leadership of Danville senior Stephen Dexter, will encourage participation, and student campaign funds raised by May of this year will support The College Centrethe College's renovation and expansion of the library/main academic building and the athletic/recreation facility. On March 17, Centre reached the 50-percent participation mark for alumni annual giving. Another 1,240 alumni donors are needed to reach the goal of 66 percent, which should return Centre to the top national ranking in annual alumni-giving percentage. An anonymous $100,000 challenge gift made by a Centre graduate has been effective in generating increased participation. Additional telephone and direct mail efforts are scheduled for upcoming weeks. The board approved an operating budget of approximately $37.9 million for the 2004-2005 fiscal year. During this meeting of the board, six trustees were re-elected to serve a six-year term.
