Centre alumni honored for outstanding teaching achievements

DANVILLE, KY—Several Centre alumni have been recognized for their achievements in education.

Patti Scott Rowland '76 has been named 2004 Kentucky Teacher of the Year.

Rowland is a technology resource and curriculum teacher at Hogsett Elementary School in Danville. She is in her 28th year of teaching.

Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit recently congratulated Rowland during a visit to Hogsett.

She was honored during a ceremony in Frankfort, Ky., and received a $10,000 award and plaque.

In addition, the Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals named Paige Dyche Stevens '71 the 2004 Middle School Principal of the Year. She is the principal at Bate Middle School in Danville.

Brad Phipps '89 received the 2004 Ashland Teacher Achievement Award. He is a biology teacher at Muhlenberg North High School in Greenville, Ky.

Kandy Richards Stroup '78 was presented the Best Practices Award for Region 5 and the Best Practices Award for Program Evaluation and Research at the 2003 Kentucky Association for Psychology in Schools convention. Stroup has been a psychologist in the Danville school system for 19 years.

The state Education Cabinet has named Mardi Montgomery '93 as its deputy secretary. She was a gifted and talented teacher for the Danville school system.
