| New Northern Ireland travel journal on Web site RELEASED: Oct. 21, 2004
The senior music major from Louisville, Ky., is studying at Queen's University Belfast through Centre's international study program. Wicke recently came upon a salsa-dancing club near her Queen's residence hall. She quickly recruited her roommate (Sandy, who is from France) and her next-door neighbors (who are from Finland) to join her there each Friday night. Salsa dancing is just one of the things that's surprised Wicke about Belfast, where she says there's a "strong international flavor." Wicke has enjoyed seeing the "beautiful green Irish landscape," the Belfast Zoo and the historic castles and learning about the country's legends and rich history. For more on her experiences, go to http://www.centre.edu/web/admission/traveljournals/wicke_ireland.html. Wicke is a John C. Young Scholar, a program in which selected seniors collaborate with a Centre professor on advanced research and present their work at a symposium at the end of the academic year. Wicke, a talented piano player, is studying with Larry Bitensky, assistant professor of music and an award-winning composer.
