DANVILLE, KY—The votes have been counted—more than 500 of them, in fact. The people have spoken: the coolest room on the Centre College campus belongs to (drum roll, please) … sophomores Jeremy Ware of Corbin, Ky., and Sam Wecker of Alexandria, Ky.
Ware and Wecker have turned their Walnut House room into a musical blast from the past. Complete with hand-painted carpet, album covers on the ceiling, a handmade record clock, eight-track tapes accenting the furniture, patchwork bedspreads, and a variety of personal accents, their home away from home combines self-expression and functionality.
Ware and Wecker will receive a $100 Target gift card.
The runners-up, Ashley Dickinson and Katherine Lucking, Chris Creger and Matt Kowaleski, Kat Farris and Cloe Lucket, and Nikki Cammack and Ashley Dickens, will receive gift certificates.
Centre's Communications Office photographed and judged more than 30 rooms for the contest on the basis of color, creativity, decorations, theme and overall look. The contest committee selected the five finalists, and online voters determined the winner.
Be on the lookout in coming weeks for an expanded feature on the Centre Web site—Cool Rooms at Centre—spotlighting many of the contest rooms as well as other rooms around campus.
