RELEASED: Oct. 13, 2005
A free public reception for the artists will be held on Oct. 14 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the AEGON Gallery. While at Centre, each of the artists studied glass-blowing techniques with Stephen Rolfe Powell, Stodghill Professor of Art. Powell reflects, "What a thrill to have Paul, Paul, Brook, Jonathan and D.H. back for an exhibition of their professional work. It's a diverse group of individuals and approaches to glass and most interesting to see how their work has changed and developed. Their work reinforces the idea that we teach the students to find their own way." Hugues has worked with Powell for the last seven years. He has also worked with White whom he has helped build and run two studios in Louisville: Glassworks and Flame Run. Nelson has been working with glass for 15 years. He received a master's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and he is now making his artwork and instructing classes at Flame Run. McNabb resides in Seattle, Wash., where he works for glass artists Lino Tagliapietra, Dante Marioni, Janusz Pozniak, David Walters, and James Mongrain. Swanz lives and works Louisville. His works have been exhibited recently at the Tobin-Hewitt Gallery in Louisville. White, co-owner of Flame Run hotshop and gallery, has traveled extensively working with artists and visiting glass centers around the world. White's work has garnered many awards and has been shown throughout the U.S. -end- Founded in 1819, Centre College is ranked among the U.S. News top 50 national liberal arts colleges.
