Madrigal feast celebrates Renaissance song and dance RELEASED: Nov. 23, 2005
Set in 1545, highlights of the feast include period pageantry, instrumental and vocal music from the 14th through the16th centuries, a delightful history lesson and delicious food. Four Queens was written by Karin Ciholas, Van Winkle Professor of Language at Centre. The Centre Singers, under the direction of Barbara Hall, will perform numerous a capella selections with drum and tambourine as well as the traditional dances pavane and branle. The audience will be treated to sacred motets in English, French and Latin; French chansons, and English madrigals. A highlight will be the performance of a piece of music written by Henry VIII. Attendees will partake in a festive meal that includes cream of vegetable soup, tossed salad, top round with wild mushroom sauce, medley of squash with tomato, parslied potatoes, and apple tart. Cast members include Shannon Bailey, Dan Burkey, Elizabeth Cornell, Ben Durham, Derrick Grant, Melissa Hope, Melissa Langdon, Stephen Ludlum, Lyle Mantooth, Jacob Raderer, and Elizabeth Schildkret. Tickets can be purchased at the box office at the Norton Center for the Arts. Tickets are $30 per person, with discounts available for senior citizens and children under 12.
