Annual Giving Comes to Close and Comes Down to the Wire

RELEASED: Aug. 4, 2005

DANVILLE, KY—The 2004-05 annual giving year concluded June 30 with Centre College in a typically tight race to hold onto the No. 1 ranking in annual alumni participation, after reclaiming that title a year ago. Centre ended the year at 60 percent alumni participation along with Williams, finishing behind Amherst (63 percent) and Davidson (62 percent) and ahead of Princeton (58.6 percent) and Carleton (54 percent).

Though Centre was edged at the wire in the race for No. 1, the 2004-05 annual giving year was a tremendous success. The Triple Crown Challenge, announced on Feb. 1, had a great impact. As a result of the challenge, 399 alumni made more than one gift to the College this year (July 1, 2004–June 30, 2005) and 1,135 alumni increased the level of their giving. Similarly, the College ended the year with a record 994 members of the Centre Associates (those who give $1,000 or more) and 2,908 members of the Colonels Club (those who give $100 or more).

"It's been a great year," says Jamey Elliott '96, director of annual giving. "We certainly want to say thank you again to the 5,507 alumni who made a gift this year as well as to our anonymous alumnus who issued the Triple Crown Challenge. We're grateful for our loyal and generous alumni, and we'll obviously do everything we can next year to get back to No. 1."

While the 2004-05 annual giving campaign has come to a close, the 2005-06 campaign started on July 1. To make a gift to the College, visit the online giving site at http://gifts.centre.edu/.
