Centre College and Hurricane Katrina

RELEASED: Sept. 2, 2005

Centre College has received calls from parents and students affected by Hurricane Katrina, who are concerned about missing a semester and interested in enrolling here for the fall semester. Although our academic year begins next week, we are in a position to accommodate a limited number of qualified students who may enroll as non-degree seeking Visiting Students. This enrollment option is intended solely for students affected by the disaster.

Centre will not be charging tuition to students in this circumstance, instead allowing tuition dollars to continue to be directed towards the students' home school. If qualified students have already paid their fall tuition to another college or university, Centre will provide available space in classes at no additional cost. Centre has no on-campus housing available but will assist in locating suitable housing nearby. Interested students should contact the Office of Admission at Centre College immediately. The telephone number is 1-800-423-6236. Interested students should know that many classes are full and that the College will make the best possible placement within this limitation. Class placement and financial assistance will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The last day for registration as a Visiting Student is September, 9, 2005.

Please contact J. Carey Thompson, Dean of Admission and Student Financial Planning (cthompso@centre.edu) or Bob Nesmith, Director of Admission (nesmith@centre.edu), to discuss enrollment as a Visiting Student.
