Well, you might ask a Harry Potter-obsessed pre-med, a first-generation American from the big city, a political activist with a love for adventure, a violin-playing ex-football player, a gregarious guitar player, or a varsity athlete who is the sixth in his family to attend Centre. These are purposely sketchy descriptions of six real freshmen who have agreed to document, in words and pictures, the exciting, exhausting and exhilarating freshman year at Centre. Starting next week on Tuesday, Sept. 27, visitors to the My CENTRE Life Web site (http://www.centre.edu/mycentrelife) will know their names, their faces, and what they're up toin the classroom, in the dorm, in the dining hallat all hours. "My CENTRE Life: The Freshman Year" will be a year-long series of Web journals (with lots of pictures) written by this diverse group of six entering freshmen. These regular postings, along with occasional Centre homepage feature stories on the student journalists, will give readers an excellent feel for the fun, difficulties, surprises and changes of the freshman yearfrom six unique perspectives. The student journalists will write about rainy days and challenges as well as sunny ones and successes. They'll also include pictures of the experience from Day One, beginning at home before they headed out for Centre. Readers will have a chance to see these Centre freshmen in their hometowns and meet their family and friends. As the college experience unfolds the journalists will write of their classes, life on campus and offweekend road trips, holidays at home, spring break, heartbreak, new friends, a new life. As one of the six wrote just before leaving home for his college adventure, "I hope that I'm a different person after this year. I expect to be challenged, hurt, and tired a lot. I look forward to coming back and showing off to everyone I meet the person I became, after living more independently than ever before, with the brightest group of peers I could have." - end - Founded in 1819, Centre College is ranked among the U.S. News top 50 national liberal arts colleges.
