Admission: A banner year across the boards

RELEASED: March 31, 2005

DANVILLE, KY—The Centre College Class of 2009 is shaping up to be one of Centre's biggest and best ever, according to Carey Thompson, dean of admission and student financial planning. Centre has received approximately 25 percent more applications this year, setting an all-time high for the College. In-state applicants provided an increase of 18 percent while out-of-state applicants provided a 32.5 percent increase.

"We're very pleased to see significant increases in the numbers of students from outside the Commonwealth," Thompson says. "It demonstrates that Centre's mark on the national landscape is growing by leaps and bounds."

While most applicants come from Kentucky, Centre is attracting more students from Tennessee, Ohio, Texas, Georgia and Florida, as well as a number of international applicants.

"This coming fall we're projecting a total enrollment of approximately 1,090 and anticipate 310 new freshmen on campus," Thompson says.

"We'll host our major scholarship interviews on April 1-2 and April 8-9, and Centre of Attention Day for accepted seniors on April 9."
